Week 1: Aeslin versus Datsue Ba
Aeslin wins 9-6

The night was dark, and ancient powers unseen in Malifaux for centuries stalked the streets once more. Aeslin, Dryw to the Autumn Queen, surveyed the igneous scar left by Cherufe's escape. While the fissured streets had cooled to a craggy flow of black glass and stone, fires still glowed deep beneath, casting an infernal glow over the Quarantine Zone block.

Aeslin tilted her head, addressing the entourage behind her, never taking her eyes off the landscape. "The Tooth. Your's is the season of heat and drought. Through the trials of many suns and flames, death leads to rebirth. What does your eyes see?"

The Tooth, interpreting the Dryw's question as leave to approach, took lithe steps toward the overhang where Aeslin floated. She squinted; while indeed the glow of magma still flowing under the pockmark landscape gave sufficient light in the moonless night, the plumes of ash and smoke obscured much.

"I see… yes, I see a figure. It must be the Traveler as promised. But, he is not alone. The glow of departed spirits swirl around him."

"How many?" Aeslin demanded, not hiding the irritation she felt. The coachman promised no other parties, mortal or otherwise, knew the Lonely Traveler was in Malifaux. The Dryw actually chuckled as the Claw struck the foolish mortal down; it was fitting, that the ancient Traveler's reentry to this part of the QZ would be the harbinger of the Queen's own return to this world.

"Five, maybe six? It is hard to tell."

"No matter," the Thorn shrugged as she unspooled her vine whips. The Changeling at her feet mimic the motion, summoning shadowy imitations of her weapons in it's pink, childish hands. "We will inter the undead to the repose they deserve, feeding our roots once more."

There was a squeal of frozen bark plates shifting and grinding together. While the Claw said little, Aeslin knew without turning around that the Fae drawing his spear was a sign of agreement with the Thorn.

"Very well. Autumn Knights, strike down these poor creatures, but leave the Traveler alive. He and I have much to discuss…"

Week 1: Barbaros versus Vincent St. Clair
Barbaros wins 4-3

A new scent is in the cold air.

This never happens. Should not happen. We will make sure this never happen again. Barbaros will fix this problem.

"Hassshk! Earth-man come! Sssssmell death!"

Barbaros' harsh voice echoed and distorted inside his helm, forcing him to give orders with the Invader's tongue instead of the more natural hisses and grunts of his Nephilim birth. The Young and the Tots squealed with glee, while a looming silhouette approached the nightmarish cadre.

"Qashhhax! Give me the pot!"

The massive shadow stepped from its hiding place, the weak sunlight just peaking over Slate Ridge revealing another mountain, but in a more humanoid form. Mr. Graves silently took three strides toward the cripple while the other demonic creatures gave him a wide berth. The bouncer cradled the requested pottery with more care than one would expect from such an intimidating frame. Barbaros tossed his macuahuitl aside to snatch the corked pot from the bouncer's embrace.

"Earth-man take our land, take my wingsss, take take TAKE! Ssssssssss! No more! Mother sssay we protect Travel-man, ssso we do! They no TAKE Travel-man!"

While his brothers screamed for blood, Barbaros uncorked the pot.

Week 1: Aeslin versus Vincent St. Clair
Aeslin wins 7-5

They say the Traveler came into town from space. There's a new crater off my front porch to prove it. We were once a peaceful town, but now? Everyone wants to come and see this Traveler.

The two armies came from the north and south, didn't even use the gate, didn't even care about the river, just forced their way through. One of the guys, Vincent, seemed to suddenly appear out of the shadows just to talk to the Traveler and see what he had to offer. But, I don't think that was a great plan, because he got shot down pretty quick by the vine woman, who allowed him no escape. After both groups chasing each other through the neighborhood Vincent's crew was nearly dead. The late-Vincent's team was trying a pincer attack on their foes, but their force was too much. With only one lone Shieldbearer and one zombie dancer left of his team, they attempted their last stand against their foes. They decided to go straight for their leader, Aeslin. After fighting with Aeslin and nearly killing her, one of the Autumn Knights denied Vincent's crew the satisfaction of the kill and instead took her life for the greater good – for Titania, whoever that is.

But maybe now things can go back to normal and that Traveler will go and harass someone else's town.

Week 1: Barbaros versus Datsue Ba
Barbaros wins 10-8

"Do you believe in ghost stories, venn?"

"Wha'?" Charles jolted upright from the pub counter, surprised by the proximity of the unfamiliar voice. Drunkenly, he swatted what he thought was a fly on his face, only to knock off the coaster that was still stuck on his cheek. The stranger's voice chuckled.

"Amigo, I asked, do you believe in ghosts?"

Charles swiveled his head to the other patron. Marisa, the lone barmaid, must not have noticed Charles napping on the bar stool, but the shut eye didn't sober him up at all. The stranger's features was just a fuzzy shadow, covered up by a wide brim hat Charles recognized from the woodcuts in the papers about the Americas and her West. He seemed to be wearing a blanket with a hole punched in the center for his head. And people accused HIM being a drunk, when Marisa allows men like this into the Young Lighthouse?

With tremendous focus, Charles finally remember the question posed, as the stranger continued to sit still like a coiled brown snake, leering from under his ridiculous cowboy hat. "Nah mate, dead is dead! When I die, I'll jus' be worm-food. No more'n that. My shela always says… uh, 'Your grave would be filled with lazy BEES, hangover-honey from you's pushing daisies!" Charles tried to laugh, but it came out more of a ragged cough.

The stranger shifted toward the barmaid, seemingly untouched by the jest, though the shade of a smile infected his voice, "Two fingers of your finest whiskey for my yujin here, madam."

Marisa glanced over her shoulder to make eye contact with Charles, shrugged, and shuffled to the back. Once she was out of sight, the stranger leaned closer to the still coughing drunk and began to talk in a quick tempo.

"That might be what happens to your body, hoa, but I'm talking about the pervasive spirit that is your soul. I have seen so many things in my Travels… loved ones long dead roaming the streets of Malifaux once more, shrieking, bloodthirsty demons whose only purpose is to purge Humanity from Our Lands…"

The stranger went on, and the heated whisper the man was targeting Charles with was a poison to his inebriation. Malifaux? Walking dead? He had heard stories and read headlines of what lies beyond the Breach, but always dismissed them as propaganda. While the Outback was indeed under Guild control, it remained relatively untouched by the politics and economics of soulstones. The horrors of Malifaux are just cooked-up stories to tax us all the more, right? However, This man's conviction made Charles begin to question all his previous assumptions.

Including if what he was talking to was even a man. The way he said "Humanity" made it sound like he didn't include himself under the moniker.

"…A man made of a golden skeleton, with cauterized flesh and black, boiling blood melting off his frame. Screaming spirits of the departed, hell bent to exact a revenge that both they and the living have long forgotten. Everything, aflame. The queer sights I've seen rafiki, the conflicts, all for Power. Control. Freedom. These soldiers always come to me in the beginning, hoping to gain the foundation bricks of this Power. Do you know what those bricks are?"

Charles had long forgotten his cough, and was stone sober at this point. He was looking into the eyes of this… Traveler. While the grisly visage was still deep in shadow from the Lighthouse's poor lighting, it still felt like a bright, summer shadow compared to the bottomless depths of the man's black eyes. Charles could only whimper a strangled croak to the new question. The stranger grinned.

"That's exactly right, dost. Many think it money, cash, Scrip. A faulty system, unwise to worship. Soulstones, others will answer? No, just another currency for another flavor of fool. But the cornerstone of Power, the ability to topple your fellow kin? Secrets. Knowledge. Ghosts of information and spectral memories passed between teacher and pupil. That is what everyone wants, friend. That is what I sell."

With a swirl of his poncho, the man exited the pub, leaving Charles behind as the lone patron. Slowly, he fished for a few silvered coins and a paper Scrip to cover the coming whiskey, and made his own exit, hoping he had waited long enough to allow the stranger to make some distance in the night. He strode out, in a measured gate that his drunk self would not have held minutes earlier.

Marisa returned with a glass and a dusty bottle, only to find her establishment empty. Her eyes bulged when she found the pile of Scrip, which covered the cost of Charles' binge for the night twice over.

Odd, Marisa thought, placing the bottle on the counter. The barfly was a notorious penny pincher, only paying his monthly tab when she threatens of tossing him out. Why he ordered whiskey for himself, a drink he's loudly declared to be filth when other regulars order it, and just walk out? Strange.

Without another thought, she stashed the money in the register, and began closing shop.

Duer's Library.

The ultimate collection of scientific and arcane knowledge collected in one place within Malifaux.

When the Guild regained control of the city immediately after the Second Breach, the various powers that be thought it wise to collect all the pilfered tomes and grimoires of Neverborn lore into one location. During the first occupation of Malifaux in the First Breach, many treasures were lost to smugglers and treasure hunters. This time, the Guild is adamant to keep such rare, powerful finds behind lock and key. Only the rare few Guild officers and sanctioned spellcasters are allowed to enter and gaze and the scripts.

Aeslin addressed her collect Autumn Knights, "The Traveler was immensely useful. What we desire is in that building. Kill all who stand in our way."

In the shadows of the Library's columns, shapes like massive, pale bats dangled from the top ornimentations. "Mother doesssn't want Old One to walk thisss plane again!" Barbaros hissed to his cadre. "Ssstop the druid at all cossstsss!"
